Interview

Pankit is unlike many actors very down to earth. His recent success has not changed that fact. He makes all out efforts to reach out to his fans. He made his first attempt by getting in touch with them on india-forums.com! He is also found on orkut now. He tries his best to reply to all his fans' questions and wishes. Here is an interview where Ishan Kamat(www.dillmillgayye.blogspot.com) discovers more about Pankit and his experience of doing the new youthful show.

How has your experience been while working in Dill Mill Gayye?
I have had a wonderful experience while working for DMG, especially coz I was the first one to be signed for the show. I am on the project since March 07 that is technically 5 months in advance and I have been associated with the whole jing bang that goes into making a hit show. I am glad that the hard-work has paid and it has been received brilliantly. Thanks to all you fans who has a big hand in our success.

You have worked in two more serials on Star one; "India Calling and Special Squad." Amongst these three serials including DMG which serial did u enjoy doing the most?
To be honest "special squad" is the show I have enjoyed the most. India calling I did just for money.

Are you similar to your reel character Atul Joshi in real life too?
No not at all. I am a very shy and a very reserved guy, and I don’t like talking endlessly. I like my space and also I respect others space as well. Basically, personally I am very dry and aloof.

Amongst your co-stars whom do you enjoy more working with?
I enjoyed working with Shradhha Nigam. Not everybody knows, but we have done a show together on Zee TV - "Tu Kahe Agar" and we have had an excellent working chemistry.

Any funny incident on the sets that you can recall of?
Nothing specific.

What's next? Which serials other than Dill Mill Gayye are you currently working in or what are your future projects?
Well, after DMG I am being offered a show every day, infact I had signed one as well, but I opted out because of creative differences.I am being very careful as I don’t want to take up work just for the heck of it. As soon as I have something interesting I will share it with you.

Besides acting what are your other passions? What would have been an alternate career for you if not acting?
I can’t imagine myself doing anything else except "acting".

You have a lot of fan following on many social network communities (Orkut, India – Forums, etc.). Any message for your fans?
Listen to your heart; coz it may be on the left; but it is always right.

This is another interview that he gave a while back.!
Your third serial on StarOne "Dill Mill Gayye" is doing well, what do you have to say about it?
It's good that our show is doing very well and I am very excited about it. A lot of people believe that only a certain genre like the saas-bahu sagas works on television. But our show is very different from other shows. So that proves that the genre doesn't matter, it's the concept that counts.

How did you bag this role?
I went through an audition. I had already worked with one of the creative directors and we knew each other. All you young actors have got a lot of footage from this serial.

Do you thing you all will be able to live up to the expectations of the audience?
Frankly speaking, I have previously done bigger shows, like "India Calling" and "Special Squad" with StarOne, which was much talked about. Before that, I had worked with Balaji, so this hype around "Dill Mill Gayye" doesn't really affect me. I have seen all this before.

How similar is your reel character of Atul Joshi with the real you?
It's an absolute contrast. In real life, I am an introvert, very reserved, who likes to be left alone. On the other hand, Atul is very light-hearted, juvenile and an extrovert.

Did you face problems in mixing with others on the sets because of your reserved nature?
The problem with me is that I don't open up easily with anybody. I am a very reserved guy. So it was difficult for me to gel with others even though I wanted to. I took a lot of time to open up. Now, I have struck a rapport with all. Personally, it doesn't matter to me who are friends with whom. I totally depend on my vibes. If they are positive, then only I make friends. Touchwood! people here on the sets are really very nice. If I don't like someone I would say that in the face.

Any funny incident on the sets that you can recall of?
There are plenty of them. You can ask the girls about it, they will tell you all about me. They keep telling me that I am very funny, which actually I am not. That's what I find funny.

What other projects are you currently working in?
Next up is a show with Cinevista on Zee. But there is time for it. So I don't want to talk about it right now.

What can the audience expect from "Dill Mill Gayye"?
You should not expect anything from serials, you must simply enjoy them. Today, this show is being hyped, tomorrow some other show will be hyped. What's important is to preserve the essence of the show. We are doing that. Even if some other new serial hits the block, the audience must stay back with us.

What are you very passionate about?
I am passionate only about acting. I even read books to enhance my acting skills.

What would you like to be known as by one and all?

As an actor, no second thoughts about that.
